MBA Fair
What is the best fair for the MBA?
We believe that the best MBA courses are those that are truly international. In order to be truly international a few things need to happen.
Firstly, the course needs to cover international content - so the companies in the case studies should be from all over the world and the theories expanded should not have any boundaries in terms of international coverage.
Secondly, the faculty should be international. They should come from all different countries, with what they can offer to students being the most important factor (obviously they'll need to have good English as well!).
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly for the breadth and depth of the education that you can get on your MBA course, is how international the student body is. The reason for this is that on the course you should be sharing your experiences and practices with each other and it is a much richer experience if the experiences and practices stem from different countries and different cultures. You're more and more likely to find yourself working with people from different cultures and being on a course with international students can really help with that.
How does a course get international students then? Well, for some, such as London Business School , international students will always come due to the school's international reputation. However, London Business School needs to be able to market itself and to meet students as well. Other schools must get out there and meet students and market themselves. This is what the MBA fair does.
MBA fairs are an interesting occasion. Basically it's like a milk-round at university, or it's like any other exhibition. At milk rounds a bunch of companies set up stands around a room where you can talk to them and they can conduct impromptu interviews and give you information on them and application forms and you can work out if you want to work with them.
An MBA fair is just like that. The MBA schools set up around a big room or set of rooms and you can meet them and talk to faculty, members of the marketing staff and also (and this should happen) some of the students or alumni of the school. This enables them to meet you and learn about you but most importantly you can learn about them and ask any questions you want to ask. This is a great opportunity for you and you should go to a fair if it comes to town because you can tell a lot by the effort a business school makes at these.
The best fair is generally considered to be the World MBA fair. It should be pretty obvious from the name why this is. If the World fair comes around, go and see it.
